A Bond out of Bondage

Reading of the Day: Exodus 32-34

Exodus 33:17: And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

This whole passage is so beautiful. It shows Moses getting closer & closer to God in each verse...so close, that God allows Moses the ability to plead with Him concerning the people of Israel. This pleading was needed because, as Moses was drawing closer & closer to God, the people were moving farther & farther away. They were impatient & discontent, waiting for Moses to come back & share more with them about the plans God had for them. They allowed the imposter of impatience to enter their souls! What should have grown as a longing for more of The Lord turned into doubt & frustration over who their "god" really was. Instead of creating a bond with God in their hearts as they waited for Moses, they put themselves back in bondage by being a slave to their sin and creating an idol! Even before Moses returned, they knew they shouldn't be creating idols. Before it was written on tables of stone, it was spoken into their ears, minds & hearts. We can't be so quick to question the way God does things! Once God brings us out of some type of bondage, we tend to second-guess and get ourselves right back in that place again! Instead, we need to create a bond with God like Moses...so close, God hearkened to his cry to spare the people! So close, that God allowed Moses to see the back of Him as He passed by in all His glory! So close, that after an encounter with God, Moses' face was actually glowing! Instead of a shiny golden calf, we need the brightened-up spirit of someone who has spent time in God's presence! Instead of the imposter of impatience, we need a bond out of bondage...a bond that is so strong, it's a bandage to any wound or rock which could be thrown by the bondage of the past!
