Reading of the Day: Leviticus 1-3

Leviticus 3:5: And Aaron's sons shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt sacrifice, which is upon the wood that is on the fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord.

The concept of burning is used quite often in the Bible. Many of us think of the burning lake of hellfire. Even though that place is a true reality and should definitely not be our focus, "burning" in this life can be thought of as a positive thing as we dedicate our lives to The Lord! In the Old Testament, there were many burnt offerings and sacrifices made, and as the Scripture states above, it was a sweet savour to The Lord! This burning was a good thing. It was symbolic of burning away all of the sin in the lives of the Israelites. And now, as presented in the New Testament until now, we can burn for The Lord in Spirit! When we receive the Holy Ghost & fire, it's Jesus on the inside of us...and He gives us a fiery passion to live for Him! This type of fire is not only a fuel & passion to keep us striving for our best with The Lord, but it also does exactly what it did in the Old Testament: it burns away the things which we need to release to Jesus! Our fleshly & earthly ways spiritually burn away as we walk as the Holy Ghost leads! Think of the fire of a candle, burning against a cold winter's night. It's one of the most beautiful sights...and how much more beautiful is it for God to see a soul on fire for Him! The Light of The World, Jesus, shines in us by His Spirit with evidence of speaking with new tongues! And when we live a repentant life and are baptized beneath the waters, we are fresh, new and ready for the fire to guide us all the way to Heaven! Fire is so much more a hope than it is to be feared. As long as we live for Him, and burn for Him always in our hearts, there's no way fire could mean anything more.
