A Vow to Victory

Reading of the Day: Numbers 19-21

Numbers 21:25: And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.

These chapters started out a little rocky...Moses smote a rock instead of speaking to it in order for the people to receive water, and so he & Aaron would not be able to enter the promised land once the rest finally got there in the future (but God still favored Moses greatly as a faithful leader). Aaron passed away in these chapters as well. Also, some kings would not let Israel pass through their land. It seemed like the Red Sea was closing in on them instead of the Egyptians now! But then Israel did something that God had most likely been waiting on them to do from the start-they vowed a vow! Numbers 21:2: "And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities." This vow was made right after king Arad the Canaanite attacked & took some Israelites as prisoners. The Israelites truly felt they had enough. Enough of feeling defeated, complaining & having a lack of trust in God...and so, they vowed this vow! Soon after, they won many battles & victories for The Lord...and that's because they remembered Whose side they were fighting on! They made a vow & commitment to God, and in turn, God gave them the victory! It's so easy to doubt & turn away from God when things get difficult-but one vow to stay the course could bring on the victory! If God will deliver us, we will destroy whatever idols, attitudes, doubts & fears stand in our way! We will not let those things control our lives any longer...God is in control, and we must vow to win the victory in Jesus' Name!
