A Wellspring of Opportunity

Reading of the Day: Genesis 19-21

Genesis 21:19: And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

This post is a continuation of the last one, because God certainly opened my eyes (as stated here in this verse) to something I had not seen before. In the last post, I talked about how God saw Hagar, Sarah's bondwoman and mother of Abraham's child, when she ran away. She called Him "El Roi," or "the God Who sees me." That is so beautiful and powerful...and there's actually more to it! In this next section, she is sent off and leaves Abraham & Sarah once again, and this time because she was turned away by both Sarah and Abraham. But again, this was still all a part of The Lord's plan! God was still the God Who, inside and out, saw Hagar and what she struggled with in that moment. She thought her son would die out in the wilderness, that they wouldn't make it, and she should just give up hope. But God comes to remind her that a blessing still rests on her son as well! He encourages her to take her son and continue on-and He does this by opening HER eyes! Not only is He the God Who sees us, but He allows US to see wellsprings of opportunity that we never noticed before! God opened Hagar's eyes, and she saw a well...there was water! There was hope! They would survive! All because there was GOD! The same is true for us today...before giving up, remember, God sees you...and if you seek Him, He will open your eyes to the next best thing, that wellspring of opportunity!
