Be on Guard

Based on 2 Kings 19-21, John 4:1-30

Sometimes, we need to be careful who we share our lives with. We need to be on guard with the things & people we hold dear to our hearts. In our world today, we need to look both ways before crossing any territory, not just a street! You never know what's around the corner, or what's in the intentions of someone's heart. With our safety constantly in the balance, it's such a relief to find security in Jesus!

"At that time Berodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah: for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not." 2 Kings 20:12‭-‬13

King Hezekiah went through a miraculous healing. He wasn't supposed to live an extra 15 years, but God spoke through Isaiah that God would grant him an extension on his life! Also, God turned back time! The reason this miracle happened in Hezekiah's life was because he was one of the few kings who obeyed God & feared Him. However, right after this took place, we see that Hezekiah wasn't careful about who he shared his blessings with. Although he still feared God, he may have started feeling a little invincible after that incredible miracle...whether that was the case or not, he should have been more careful about letting others in to see his treasures from The Lord...especially because he showed all this to the king of Babylon!

"And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD . Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD . And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good , if peace and truth be in my days?" 2 Kings 20:16‭-‬19

It may not be the best idea to leave our houses unlocked as an open invitation...not because we are trying to offend people, but we are just being on guard against the ones who will try to break through & steal the things God has blessed us with. Thankfully, we can always share Jesus with everyone! Even if He is not received well by some, He can never be stolen from us! And receiving Him in our hearts as the Holy Ghost is the best gift & blessing!

"The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him." John 4:28‭-‬30

The woman at the well is such a touching occurrence. Jesus met her where she was at that moment, but He knew all she had ever done in her past. He was there to bridge the gap between Jews & Samaritans, but even greater than that, bridge the gap between God & humanity. He was & is God in the flesh, and He shared the treasure with this woman that He was the Messiah. Just like Hezekiah, that was a pretty bold thing to share! However, in Jesus' case, He knew that He was sharing Truth...something that brought so many others to Him through the woman at the well, but also something that would lead to His death. Thankfully, we know His death only brought new life! The Truth never dies, and when we are fully in the Truth, we can have eternal life! And that's the greatest treasure we never have to worry about sharing! We just need to guard our hearts, and not allow ourselves to forget that Jesus is the greatest treasure!
