Being in the Way

Based on Genesis 24-25

"And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels. And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not."

Genesis 24:20‭-‬21

I just love the story of Rebekah, especially because we see how quickly God can answer a prayer! Even before Abraham's servant was done praying for God to give him confirmation of which girl was the right one for Isaac, Rebekah walks up, gives the servant water and also offers to give the camels water as well. One sermon our Pastor preached on this topic taught that camel-care is no easy task! It would have taken a lot of time & effort to give those camels water, but Rebekah was willing to do it. When all this happened, the servant just stood there in wonder, watching! Lots of the time, we stand in impatience, constantly wondering why our lives haven't changed...but this servant stood in wonder and awe because God DID bring the promise to pass! He wondered, "Did God just prosper my way THAT quickly!?" But how do WE get that same opportunity, to wonder & awe at the answered prayers instead of wondering "why me"? Well...we have to be in the way, which is GOD's way! We can't get in our own way, complaining instead of praying to see these wonderful things come to pass!

"And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren."

Genesis 24:27

God didn't drop Rebekah onto the scene out of nowhere, as a little perfect bundle of a blessing from the sky...the reason God drew her to that place was because of Abraham's obedience & dedication which was reflected through His servant's willingness to go & trust God! They were already IN the way, so Rebekah was ON the way!

"And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee."

Genesis 24:45

"And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son."

Genesis 24:48

God's way isn't just A way, it is always the RIGHT way! The servant went in prayer, and ended in praise. The journey was a success! We must remember that our journey will be a success, only if we are going the right way! We can't be asking God for help and choose our own path! We have to be willing to go where He leads us. Prayer will get us there! And who knows? It may just get answered before we are done speaking...
