Blessed are the Peacemakers
Bible Reading Today: 2 Samuel 16-18
2 Samuel 16:12 It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.
If I had to pick one person who represents the following Beatitide, it's David:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9
He first showed immense peace & patience upon king Saul, who sought David's life many times. Then, in another instance, David endured cursing from someone on the roadside without fighting back. The person was cursing him, talking about Saul as well. But in bringing up Saul, I'm sure David was reminded of the mercy he had upon Saul and his house, and so he knew he could do it again for this man who was making a mockery of him. As was mentioned in another post, serving takes strength...and so does peace-making! As the Scripture states from 2 Samuel, David was hopeful that The Lord would return good to him after the cursing. In holding his peace, and having peace with this angry person, David would in fact receive good! That's because, in later chapters, this same man who cursed David would ask for forgiveness! What's better than seeing someone suffer as you have? Seeing a heart change for the better! It takes peace. It takes patience. But it gives us so much more in return!
