Reading of the Day: Numbers 28-30

Numbers 29:12: And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days:

Many times throughout Scripture, The Lord calls for a holy convocation, or a time of gathering together for a special purpose. This was a time to break from the duties & responsibilities of daily life in order to focus on and celebrate The Lord. The Israelites were not to do any servile work on that day. To many, this time was probably long-awaited and anticipated! A break from work & time to focus on what matters most-the goodness of God! And also, in the above Scripture, there was a feast to follow for 7 days! For others, however, it may have been a bit harder to break from routine...also, they may have enjoyed the skill and work they did, so it might have been tempting to continue working for those extra few minutes before setting down the plow. It's always good to examine where we fall in terms of these 2 categories-are we excited to be relieved, or are we excited to restart work again? Of course, there's nothing wrong with work, and we should put our best effort into what we do...but we also have to remember, it's not always about what WE do! We have to be willing to intentionally put the routine of this life aside to give ourselves fully to a relationship with Jesus-after all, He laid it all down for us! We must have holy convocations in the day-to-day life of our families to gather & meditate on the things of God...and it should be something we feast on for days to follow! His Word can spark so many conversations during those convocations! Another important detail about these holy convocations was that sacrifices still took place even though there was no work. This means that The Lord understands that sacrifice is necessary. It may be a sacrifice to set aside time apart from our "servile work." But there's no better work than serving The Lord, and thankfully, He placed it in His Word to have this special time with Him! Now, we just need to place it and prioritize it in our hearts! Our careers are a gift from God, and our convocations are just a celebration of that! Find that special time to rest in Him today!
