Change of Tune

Based on Psalms 40-42, Acts 27:1-26

"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: Many shall see it, and fear, And shall trust in the LORD."

Psalm 40:3

What song are we singing? I know I'm guilty at times of singing the wrong song...one with a negative, annoyed tune rather than a joyful, praise-worthy tune...I can too often give into the negative way too easily! Instead, I need to give into God! Now of course, it's hard to do something you don't feel like doing, like singing a joyful tune...but when we keep trying to change our tune, sooner or later we have a new song! And one that gives God the glory for getting us through!

"When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: For I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept holyday."

Psalm 42:4

In our stressful situations, we need to remember what it feels like to enter the house of God, with the voice of joy & praise! With a multitude of people who were there, going towards the same goal, singing the same song! We have to learn to sing it on our own sometimes, but we never have to worry! The church and our God are always there, and that's something to sing about! We just need to remind ourselves of that!

"Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life."

Psalm 42:8

We can't forget in the night what God did in the day! We need to sing a tune that exalts Him in the miracle, and keeps Him lifted high after it's all said & done! In the dark times, pushing through & pouring out a joyful song of worship is worth more than anything else! It may seem difficult at first, but that song is a battle cry which can help us overcome our fears & frustrations! (And it sounds a lot nicer!)

"And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cæsar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island." Acts 27:22‭-‬26

Be of good cheer, like Paul & the sailors! Let that cheer change our tune & put a new song in our hearts! Even if our ship is sinking, God will get us through to dry land! Let's sing our way to victory in Jesus' Name!
