Cornered
Based on 1 Samuel 22-24, Luke 12:1-31
"In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known." Luke 12:1-2.
Sometimes, we just feel surrounded on every side. Cornered. Pushed against a wall. Overwhelmed by all the different issues we must face on a day-to-day basis...we don't know where to turn, or who to trust...but as the Scripture says, the Truth WILL be revealed, especially when we trust in God!
"But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you."
Luke 12:31.
When we stare at the list of problems first & send ourselves down a puzzling path of headaches trying to figure it all out, it is so easy to give up...instead, give that list up to God in prayer! Seek Jesus first, and those things will become just an added bonus once they are managed & solved by God! David practiced this many times-being chased down & cornered not only by Saul, but the Philistines too!
"Therefore David enquired of the Lord , saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. And David's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? Then David enquired of the Lord yet again. And the Lord answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand." 1 Samuel 23:2-4.
When we seek God first as David did, we can expect victory! The Truth is revealed! We can know if it's better to pursue the problem before us, or to abandon it altogether. David's reliance on God was key to his achievements in life! It was key to escaping the corner...because he relied on the Cornerstone!
"Then David and his men, which were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went whithersoever they could go. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go forth. And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God delivered him not into his hand." 1 Samuel 23:13-14.
Saul was after David every day, but God protected him! Just as our problems don't just disappear, we must have a daily relationship with God in order to fight & win those daily battles! Next time you feel cornered, use that corner as a place of prayer! God will bring you out!
