Daily Bread
Based on Jeremiah 37-39, Psalm 117
"21: Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison." Jeremiah 37:21.
Having some form of sustenance & nourishment each day is very important. Knowing we can give our physical body its basic needs is essential. What about our spiritual bodies? How do we feed the soul?
Earlier on in this chapter, before the above verse, king Zedekiah asked Jeremiah if there was any word from The Lord. Many people & even priests were upset with Jeremiah for the Truth he spoke about going into captivity, but king Zedekiah wanted to know more. He gave Jeremiah bread for his physical body to sustain him in prison while Jeremiah gave Zedekiah daily bread for the soul-a Word from The Lord!
That's why our Bible reading is called our "BREAD"- Bible Reading Enriches Any Day! We must have our daily Word from The Lord to help us grow spiritually:
"Give us this day our daily bread." Matthew 6:11.
"2: Thus saith the LORD, He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; for he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live." Jeremiah 38:2.
Just as bread & other foods keeps our bodies alive & going, God's Word spoken through Jeremiah would preserve the life of God's people! If only the people would understand that their life depends on God more than physical bread! People today must realize this same thing. God will give us a way out of destruction & into eternal life if we heed to every Word He speaks!
"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4.
Have you had some bread today? Give yourself something that isn't going to satisfy temporarily-but eternally. That's JESUS!!!
"I am that bread of life." John 6:48.
