Deep Cleaning

Reading of the Day 5/12/25: 2 Chronicles 27-29

2 Chronicles 29:16: And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the brook Kidron.

The concept of "deep cleaning" or "spring cleaning" (or "nesting" in my case!) has made it into several of these posts over the years. I have grown to see just how Biblical it can be, reflected in a Spiritual sense. In the case of the above Scripture, the doors of the temple had been shut for a while, and the ways of God had not been followed for some time...then, thankfully, king Hezekiah stepped up & re-opened not just the doors of the temple, but also the relationship that God's people had with God. They didn't just "spruce up" the outside to make it look inviting...because what's the point of an attention-grabbing invitation if the inside is not much to look at? The point of an outward invitation is to draw others into something deeper on the inside! So, the priests went into the inner part to cleanse it! They brought out all the uncleanness & carried it all the way abroad, to the brook Kidron! They did not just leave it on the lawn, they carried it to a place where it could no longer cause corruption to the people! This type of deep cleaning is exactly what we need to do with our souls! We need to be willing to get to the deepest inner parts & be willing to face what we might find. We must allow God to shine His light in, be vulnerable, and ask Him to help us carry it far away so we cannot be corrupted with it anymore! Every one of us has some dark, dusty areas we have left shut up, untouched & hidden for some time...some things we are not willing to lay on the altar before God to rid ourselves of completely...but spring & summer are here, and there's no better time for a refresh of our souls! The Lord will call us to some wonderful, deep places...but unless we allow Him to clear & cleanse the depths of our souls, we are our own worst enemy and obstacle! Let's be refreshed & lighten the load as we allow God to lift the cover off those areas once and for all!
