Detour of Deliverance

Reading of the Day: Deuteronomy 1-3

Deuteronomy 2:36: From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:

In these first chapters of Deuteronomy, Moses discusses the journey thus far that he had been documenting. In remembering all Israel had been through, it's interesting how early on God had showed them the promised land. They had to do so much more wandering in the wilderness before they could possess that land...and that's because of fear! God had to use the wilderness as a detour back to the promised land...He never meant for them to stay in the wilderness, but He did have to take Israel on the long way around in order to show them how He would always be there for them in battle! Countless encounters & battles arose as they journeyed, and every time they put their trust in The Lord & put their fear aside, they prevailed! Soon, it would be time for Joshua to lead and take them back to face their final destination: Jericho. The promised land. The land they may have had years earlier if they did not hang onto fear! But it was definitely a detour of deliverance. They would soon be delivered from fear and delivered into the city that was promised to them! We might feel like we are on a detour. Like we should have arrived to that next phase or "promised land" by now. But we must ask, what is God trying to show us? Do we need to be delivered? Do we need to build more trust before facing what's next? Embrace each season humbly, even if it's a detour! There's always something to learn! As the Scripture says, there's not one city too strong...and not one problem too big!
