Divine Appointments

Reading of the Day: 1 Samuel 29-31

1 Samuel 30:19: And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.

Where we are, and what we are doing in this present moment, is no coincidence! I know I mentioned this in a previous post concerning the fact that there are no coincidences with God, only causes. All these causes are purposefully and divinely appointed by God! We can really see this as we study this particular situation with David, and also in some real-life examples of today. We left off with David fleeing to the Philistines after running from Saul on countless occasions. He went to the one place he would never follow him, the camp of the Philistines. Saul would never go there because the Philistines were some of Israel's greatest enemies. And now, David found himself in a situation where the Philistines were going to battle against Saul & the Israelites. I'm sure David felt justified & ready to fight. He showed Saul so many times that he was faithful, but Saul still wanted to kill him anyway. So, where else could he turn but the Philistines, and what else could he do but fight against Saul? But again, just as Abigail stood in the gap so David would not make a violent mistake, the Philistine king tells David that the Philistine army does not trust David not to turn on them and go back to the Israelites. David asks once again, "What have I done?" in 1 Samuel 29:8. David thinks he is once again being punished without a cause, but really, there's another cause God is calling him to! David returns to find that the Amalekites took their wives & children captive, and a servant of the Amalekites escapes to David & his men to show them exactly where they were taken...and just like the Scripture says, "David recovered all!" If David was not dismissed from that battle, he would not have known his family was taken captive. He would not have crossed paths with the Amalekite servant to know exactly where they were taken. He would also have had to directly fight against Saul & his people, and would have deeply regretted it later since he would become the future king of Israel! This is was certainly a divine appointment! This was a cause & calling much greater than David anticipated! Today at church, our Pastor told us how he was recently out on a prayer walk & saw an elderly man walking. Pastor simply asked how his day was going, and the man teared up, opened up & expressed how much it meant to him that someone showed him a little love! Also, at the restaurant today, someone approached our table talking about how many children we have & how he came from a big family, and soon we got on the subject of church & they will be coming to visit soon! You just never know what God's going to do! But if we follow His lead, He will direct our paths to some divine appointments which will change our lives & the lives of those around us! We will be able to introduce them to Jesus by just showing a little love...a little love goes a long way!
