Don't Forget...

Reading of the Day: Deuteronomy 4-6

Deuteronomy 4:9: Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;

Remember that one gift you received a while back? That one in the closet collecting dust? Yes, that one! Whether you know what I am talking about or not, we all have a few things we were thankful for in the moment we received it, and then we never put them to good use. That's what Moses is getting at in this passage...the Israelites were so close to entering the promised land, and Moses did not want them to forget the treasures of Truth God gave them in preparation for that promise! He wanted to be sure that these treasures of Truth were not tossed aside in a closet somewhere as they all excitedly moved into their new space! These things not only needed to be received, but kept diligently. They needed to be checked & used daily to be sure they were living right in the land God gave them. The wisdom & knowledge of The Word was never meant to depart from our hearts, but passed on in order to stay fresh, new, loved and alive in God's people! While the promised land was great, and they would soon claim the victory & set foot on that land, the greatest promise is God's Word which will never pass away...our true promised land is with Him in Heaven anyway! So we need to treasure His Truth above all else. We must never forget the wisdom of The Lord in all things we do! Maybe that one gift in the closet collecting dust was a Bible...maybe it's time to put it to good use and remember all the great promises He has in store!
