Ending an Enemy
Bible Reading 4/17: 1 Samuel 25-27
1 Samuel 26:11 The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.
What does it take to truly end an enemy? A fierce battle? The best weaponry? An aggressive attitude? Actually, it might just be something different...we've all heard the term "kill 'em with kindness," and I think that might have started with David! Although David did fight many gruesome battles for The Lord, his heart knew how to overcome the enemy in a more meaningful way, that sent more of a message & packed more of a punch than using physical force-his force of kindness! In his many flees from Saul, David could have easily overtaken & killed Saul a few times-but no matter how relentless Saul was physically, David was just as relentless in His Christ-like approach! He would not touch The Lord's anointed! True vengeance is The Lord's anyway, and God used this as a powerful message for those in David's time and for us today! Saul eventually admits later that David is a better man than he is in realizing David would not hurt him...and I'm sure that felt better than 2 people, on the same battlefield, out to kill eachother. Let's all be a level above, like David! We will not just end our enemies, but turn them into friends!
