Eyes that See

Based on 2 Kings 6-8

Our eyes take in a lot of information each day. Some good, some not so good. But do we have eyes that see things as they truly are? That see things as God intended them to be? How often do we miss the miracles because our eyes are fixed on things which make us fear?

There were many amazing scenarios and prophecies fulfilled in these 3 chapters, but a couple important things I'd like to focus on are the closing of the carnal eyes and the opening of the spiritual eyes. Elisha was able to show his people and his enemies the power and mercy of God:

"And one of his servants said, None, my Lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber." 2 Kings 6:12.

Elisha had spiritual eyes that could see and know the plans and intents of his enemies before they attacked. What a close walk with The Lord! He also used this perception to open the spiritual eyes of his servant in order to encourage him that they would win when they were attacked:

"And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha." 2 Kings 6:16‭-‬17.

God is backing us up in more ways than we know! We have to pray to have the spiritual eyes & discernment to see it! After opening the spiritual eyes of his servant, Elisha prays to God & closes the carnal eyes of his enemies:

"And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord , and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha." 2 Kings 6:18.

Elisha then led the Syrian men into the hands of their own enemies-into Samaria! Then he prayed for their eyes to be opened:

"And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria."
2 Kings 6:20.

The Syrians probably thought they were going to die. They were now at the mercy of the king of Samaria. Elisha, using wisdom and the spiritual sight of The Lord, showed his enemies what God was capable of. Elisha could have agreed with the king of Samaria to have them all killed, but instead, Elisha basically treated them as prisoners of war:

"And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master. And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel." 2 Kings 6:22‭-‬23.

What great mercy! Later on, when the Syrian king Ben-hadad had plans to attack Samaria, God actually scared them out of their own camp because they heard the noise of those heavenly chariots yet again, and they thought the king of Israel hired more nations to fight with them in battle against the Syrians!

"And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there. For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us."
2 Kings 7:5‭-‬6.

How do we understand this world? Do we filter it through eyes of faith, or fear? Do we have the spiritual sight of The Lord in order to clearly see the victory which lies before us? Let's pray about that in Jesus' Name!
