Famine of The Word

Based on Amos 7-9, Psalm 139

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:" Amos 8:11.

Why would God send a famine like this? Well, it all had to do with where Israel was already at. Israel had already made the choice to wander from God, so God desired to send a famine of His Word. When we are hungry & thirsty, our bodies alert us in different ways. In a famine of The Word, and nowhere to turn to find it, God really wanted His people to feel the power of His silence, just as they once felt the power of His presence...

The case with Pharaoh was the same way! God hardened Pharaoh's heart because Pharaoh chose to harden it first! God never wants the worst for us, but do we want the worst for ourselves? Do we really want to feel this starvation of a life without The Word?

"And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it." Amos 8:12.

Remember the last post: Seek God, Find Life! The reason that we are so deprived without The Word of God is because The Word is God, and His Word is LIFE! His Word brought us into existence, and it will keep us living the best life as long as we rely upon Him! If you feel deprived of God today, maybe you'll want to take another look at His Word to get refreshed, renewed & re-motivated! After all this took place between God & Israel, He spoke life again. He had a plan to restore them:

"And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them." Amos 9:14.

There will no longer be a famine when we get into a relationship with God! It will be fruitful! We will prosper! And most importantly, we can show our love to a God who never stops loving us.
