Filling the Void

Reading of the Day: 1 Samuel 14-16

1 Samuel 16:1: And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

In these chapters, king Saul's heart is unfortunately moved farther & farther away from God. The prophet Samuel sees this sad series of events unfold, so much so that God speaks in 1 Samuel 15:11: "It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night." Soon, Samuel has to go to Saul to tell him he will no longer be by his side to give him counsel of The Lord. After this, Samuel does have a time of mourning & grieving. Someone The Lord appointed & anointed through Samuel has turned out to be someone who was untrustworthy, unfaithful & unwilling to obey God. Sometimes, this is an unfortunate truth we must face. There are times where we mourn & grieve friendships which may not have lasted. We long for a relationship that was just not meant to be. We suffer rejection at the hands of someone we trusted so much. We should always pray for these people, but there are just some seasons where separation is the best option. Thankfully, God provides! Whatever void we have, He is there to fill it! In the main Scripture listed above, God asks Samuel how long he is going to mourn for. He then says to fill his horn with oil in order to get ready to pour the anointing oil on the new king! God may just be asking us the same question! Although God is with us to comfort us at our lowest, He does not want us to stay there! How long are we going to mourn for? God always provides us with loving people who are blessings to us, just when we need them most! Just like Samuel had to fill his horn with oil, God is there to fill up our empty cups & fill the deepest voids of our hearts! God is there to be that Friend or Loved One we lost, and He might just do that through someone new & special we are about to meet! Stay hopeful & stay faithful to God! He is the Father we can always run to, the Provider we always need, and The One Who will fill the void & fill our cup until it overflows in Jesus' Name!
