Fixed on Brokenness
Reading of the Day: 2 Kings 21-23
2 Kings 22:11: And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.
King Josiah was very young when he became king in Judah...but this didn't stop him from having a heart after old ways! After yet another long season of terrible corruption in Jerusalem, the book of the Law of The Lord is found once again! When this book is presented to king Josiah, the Scripture states that he got so emotional that he rent his clothes. This tearing & ripping of the clothing represented humility & brokenness to the greatest degree. He realized that all had forgotten the ways of God, becoming prideful in their sin, instead of being fixed on this brokenness which would allow The Lord to reign there once again. This sadness drove Josiah to cleanse the land of any & all evil things which would allow them to deviate from following after the ways of God! Thankfully, it was the king this time who had such a passion! If it wasn't someone in leadership, it could have taken a lot longer to convince everyone to start over & repent for their evil ways! We, too, must be fixed on brokenness. This was not just an "Old Testament" problem...this is a problem which stems from the very same source: pride! When we are humble & broken before God, we are open. We have the ability to receive something greater than we could supply for ourselves. Pridefulness closes us off to any other type of intervention-and if there's anything we need, it's divine intervention! Now that's not just "Old Testament" either! We need a miracle everyday! When we are fixed on brokenness, we are fixed on brokenness! In other words, when brokenness is our fixation & focus, we are fixed and restored because of that willingness to be broken! It is not a bad thing! It also does not mean we have to crawl to God in a defeated demeanor! It means we can be humble, putting our ways aside, yet be bold enough to bring our requests before God in courageous faith! Together, let's fix ourselves on brokenness in order to be whole in Jesus' Name!

The Heart of the Struggle
