God's Glorious Kingdom

Based on Genesis 10-12, Matthew 4

"And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." Genesis 11:5‭-‬6.

One thing we have to be careful of is satisfaction & accomplishment. We like to impress others & ourselves by what we are able to do...God also looked at His creation and knew it was good, and although we are created in His image, we cannot be so awestruck by our own work that we forget the work of God (who is the ONLY ONE GOOD!). We can't be so satisfied with ourselves and the material that we forget God & the supernatural! This is what happened in the story of the Tower of Babel, and it's reflected in the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness.

The people had decided it was a good idea to use their efforts to build a high tower to heaven, ultimately worshipping the work of their own hands. Here is the solution God had for them:

"Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." Genesis 11:7.

God divided them language by language, because when they were united, they used their efforts for evil & forgot all about having a reliance upon God. The devil tempted Jesus to a greater degree than this-he showed Jesus all the great kingdoms of the world in such a tiny fragment of time-yet Jesus did not give in like those with the tower...because He is God, and He is good!

"Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." Matthew 4:8-10.

God created us to worship Him! We can't worship what we create. If we forget God, we forget our purpose. That's not to say we should never strive to achieve-actually, it's quite the opposite! We must choose to achieve all we can for God's glory! God's majesty and greatness will bring us more satisfaction than any city, any status, or something created in vain.
