God Will Defend Us
Based on 2 Kings 19-20, Proverbs 10
Who is REALLY on our side? Today it's hard to tell. The good news is, if we stand on The Lord's side, we will be on the RIGHT side! The right side of victory & promise! God will defend us-"What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31. So let's not fight against God!
After many rebellious kings, Hezekiah (a king who sought The Lord) finally came on the scene to reign over Judah! With the obedience that Hezekiah had to God, Isaiah prophesied that the Asyrians would finally be defeated! With dedication to God comes the defeat of our enemies!
"So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land." 2 Kings 19:5-7.
We don't need to be intimidated! Remember, we don't need to trade in Truth when the going gets tough-because God is so much bigger than us, our problems & our enemies! Don't give up on God, because something miraculous might just be coming next! Isaiah gave this prophecy right before more Assyrian taunts came Hezekiah's way...instead of giving in or backing down like other kings did, Hezekiah gave it up to God in prayer:
"Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands, And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. Now therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord God, even thou only."
2 Kings 19:17-19.
And without a doubt, God heard & answered his prayer:
"Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard." 2 Kings 19:20.
GOD DID DEFEND HIS PEOPLE! They didn't even have to fight, because an angel of God fought for them! And the king of Assyria ended up being killed by his sons...much easier than pridefully attacking Assyria using their own fleshly strength & power! We don't have to hope for a victory with God...with God, WE WILL WIN! God even heeded to Hezekiah's prayer to have 15 more years added to his life when he fell sick. He didn't want to accept that it was his time-he still wanted to be part of what God was doing on earth...and to show Hezekiah he would live, GOD MOVED BACK TIME BRIEFLY!
Time is short for all of us, so we need to stay faithful all the way to truly see God defend us in miraculous ways.
"And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them. And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord. Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord." 2 Kings 20:15-17.
Hezekiah showed the king of Babylon all his precious treasures, because the king of Babylon sent Hezekiah a present when he was sick...so one present resulted in the exposure of Israel to the enemy!
Although Hezekiah was a great king, he still stumbled by opening the door to the enemy instead of making a greater opening for God. God used Isaiah to prophesy the Babylonian captivity through this mistake...but Hezekiah still praised The Lord!
"Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?" 2 Kings 20:19.
We need peace and truth in our days, that's for sure! GOOD IS THE WORD OF THE LORD, our greatest treasure of all!
"Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death."
Proverbs 10:2.
