Help from Heaven

Based on 1 Chronicles 10-12, John 6:45-71

"A man's gift maketh room for him, And bringeth him before great men." Proverbs 18:16

"And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel." 1 Chronicles 11:2

David's gift of leadership certainly made room for itself, as the above Scriptures state! Even before David became king, he already acted like one...and not in a prideful way, but in a manner in which he humbly relied on God. He was winning Israel's battles against the Philistines. He was winning over the hearts of so many people, just by having the God-fearing qualities he already possessed. King Saul didn't make it in his own strength...in fact, it was his own strength that killed him...but David relied on Heavenly help! Through this major character quality, God continued to send help David's way through many, many loyal & mighty men! God never left David helpless!

"Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band."

1 Chronicles 12:18

David raised these men to a high stature, captains of the band, because they too relied on God's help! They said "peace be to thine helpers; for thy God help thee." They basically said, "We are helping you, but the power is not in us...give God the credit! He's the Heavenly Helper helping through us!"

"As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad, and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zilthai, captains of the thousands that were of Manasseh. And they helped David against the band of the rovers: for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host. For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God." 1 Chronicles 12:20‭-‬22

David had help EVERY DAY! One day may be more challenging than the next for us...some days may seem to go rather smoothly...but there's never a time where we don't need God! God will never disappoint us in a prayer meeting. Just as David and his mighty men cried out to God, we can do the same! We are mightiest when we forget about our strength & power and ask God for His! Remember, His work WORKS! Everything will come together & make sense in His timing. It always worked out for David, as long as he put the most work into his relationship with God over all else!

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him." John 6:63‭-‬64

It's the Spirit that is Strength. Our flesh gives out, no matter how much we work out! We may think we have "tough skin" or "thick skin," and we don't get easily hurt...but even that will break eventually. There's always something out there that will eventually come our way that will knock us down. It may come out of nowhere...so that's why we need to know where we stand with our God! It worked out pretty well for David! And today, we are not only able to be helped by His Spirit, but we can receive His Spirit in order to rely on Him more fully! This is part of our salvation, along with repentance & water baptism in Jesus' Name, but also His Spirit is there to be our every day Helper!

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38
