Highlighting the Highest
Reading of the Day: Numbers 7-9
Numbers 8:2: Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.
One of the most peaceful, calming & beautiful sights in the tabernacle was the candlestick. It was not just one lonely stick with a single flame, but one candle holder with 7 spots for 7 candles to be lit at once. I think this is what the Menorah of today looked like originally. These lights shed light on the entire inside of the tabernacle...every corner, every tool, every furniture piece, every intricate detail. In shedding light on all these things, we see the whole picture of the importance of the tabernacle & how it represents our God! The cleansing, the purifying, and the spotlight of it all definitely falls on sacrifice...going down a couple verses, we see: Numbers 8:4: "And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the LORD had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick." The gold of the candlestick was a beaten work. Not only was there sacrifice taking place, but even the candlestick itself was a beaten work...and that's because a magnificent masterpiece of gold only comes through tried & true in the fire! Gold does not begin with beauty, and that's what our Savior decided to go through for us! Our journeys do not often begin with beauty either...things are messy until they are beautiful! Jesus was a beaten work of light & hope, just like this candlestick. Through the beating, something beautiful arises! When we highlight the Highest in our lives, and let His light shine through us, we will lead others to Him! The beaten work will shine. The beaten work will live on. In highlighting the sacrifice of the Highest, we see that our darkness does not compare to what He went through, and our light does not compare to His Light...and that's the beauty of it! He, being so much greater, gives us something so much better than we could ever receive or deserve ourselves! He loves us that much!
