In the Day of My Distress

Reading of the Day: Genesis 34-36

Genesis 35:3: And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

Every day presents new challenges, problems & overwhelming situations. And while our days can be filled with so much good as well, we tend to give more focus and attention to those things which stress us out and put us in distress. We feel like we have to be the ultimate "fixer" of everything...and that's true to a point. We can't leave things undone. We can't just stop life altogether for the sake of our problems. We have to do something...so, what do we do? We put those things in the hands of God! In the reading today, God told Jacob to go back to that place where he first encountered God! And Jacob went there once again and made another altar unto The Lord! That place was a marked moment for Jacob physically, but also spiritually. He could go find that exact location...not only to have a time of reflection & remembrance of the last time he talked to God, but also as a reminder to call upon His Name again! Sometimes in our days of distress, we forget where to turn. We need that gentle nudge & reminder that He's still there. He is still walking with us on our journeys...and what's more, He lives in us by the Holy Ghost when we receive Him by speaking with new tongues! He was close with Jacob, and He can be even closer as we receive Him into our hearts! Think back to the last time you felt close to Jesus...and just remember, He is not far away right now! He WAS able, so He IS able! He DID, so He CAN! Don't get so caught up in the distress that you forget that Friend who is closer than a brother...call upon His Name today!
