Inner Idols

Based on Ezekiel 13-15

We may not always think that our world changes or influences who we are on a daily basis...we may think we have more control than that...but the truth is, we have probably started to notice hobbies or habits developed in us which stem from videos we may view, or social media posts we've seen. The more Israel viewed the world around them, them more they adopted the behaviors of different nations, including inner idols. The things we see on the outside directly affect what happens on the inside, so we have to be careful what we let in!

"Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God." Ezekiel 13:8.

The vanities of this life & the lies we get wrapped up in pit us against God! Remember from the reading concerning Revival vs. Rebellion: if we don't stand with God, we are rebelling! We can't have it both ways. We need to pray for God's help to have self-control and not be tempted to develop idols which inwardly get rooted in our hearts! When our hearts are captured, our love is stolen from God!

"Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life: Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the Lord." Ezekiel 13:22-23.

There were lying prophetesses in Ezekiel's day, saying exactly the opposite of the Truth...AKA lying! Not much different than today. It's so hard to tell who is being completely honest...and people always get hurt in the process! We can't love anything more than God...especially lying! Honesty is always the best policy, no matter the circumstance!

But of course, just as much as we are reminded of God's judgment, we are reminded of His deliverance as it states in the above Scripture. There will be a remnant from Israel, and there will be a people from all ends of the earth who stand for God...those people are rising up now, and we need to be sure to check where we stand so we can be a part of it too!

"Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God ; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols."
Ezekiel 14:4‭-‬5.

The answer to removing these inner idols is to have daily repentance:

"Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations."
Ezekiel 14:6.

Let's turn our faces away so nothing takes root in our hearts except God's Word...in Jesus' Name!
