Jesus, The Worthy King!

Based on 2 Chronicles 10-12, John 11:30-57

Those in leadership & authority roles in our country have big responsibilities to fill, and lots of pressure...but that should never make them lose focus of why they are doing what they are doing-to serve our country & communities! Prestige & power should never replace the purpose of service, but many times we see this happen. We still respect & honor the position they have, but it becomes hard to trust them & their intentions. Thankfully, when all other systems fail, Jesus is always there! He always has dominion! He is the true & worthy King who we can trust and pray to especially when we lose trust with others!

"And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever. But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him." 2 Chronicles 10:7‭-‬8

King Rehoboam needed a lesson in respecting his elders in Judah. The elders had the patient experience of seeing kindness pay off, but Rehoboam decided to go with the impulsive, harsh alternative of violence & force which the younger generation promoted. He rejected a servant's heart. He surely didn't gain much trust. Remember, even as leaders, submission to the One True King is necessary for a successful reign!

"And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him." 2 Chronicles 12:1

Rehoboam pretty much completely let go of all that mattered. Once he got his power, he rejected God and the people he was meant to serve. Instead of being invested in God & involved with the people, he only cared about himself. This is not what a king is meant to be...and that's why Jesus stepped onto the scene!

"And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go."

John 11:42‭-‬44

Jesus helps His people! Jesus frees His people! When we are stuck in what seems like an impossible situation, even death, Jesus has what we need! And He showed that a King SERVES! He knelt down to wash the disciples feet. He took the grave clothes off of Lazarus. And He cares about us today! Even when it feels like we can't trust what's going on around us, even when we don't understand the intentions of some of those who are supposed to lead our country, we have a God we can depend on! HE IS WORTHY!
