Lending to The Lord

Reading of the Day: Ruth 3-4, 1 Samuel 1

1 Samuel 1:28: Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

We discussed last post about Ruth's journey, and how the God-ordained connection with Boaz was going to lead her to restore Israel...and it did! She gave birth to Obed, the father of Jesse, who would be the father of king David! In lending herself to be led by God in choosing to serve The Lord along with Naomi, she found great purpose and worth...and that is something she did not have back in her homeland of Moab. But before we stay focused on king David, we first have to talk about Samuel, who we meet as a miracle child in these few chapters. His mother was Hannah, and she spent many years barren. She was very distraught over this, and she went to the temple to pray...and she realized that if we look at our empty hands, and position them to pray, they will soon become full! She wept, prayed, and eventually gave birth to Samuel! Before this, she promised God that if she did have a child, she would lend him back to The Lord. That is where we find her in this above Scripture..."as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD." The reality of the situation is, God is lending these blessings to first! It is because of Him that we have these precious children in the first place! And not only that, but all we have is His! These 2 women knew that when we lend back to The Lord, and give ourselves and our families over to His service, we will be blessed beyond measure! Both women were part of the bloodline of great men of God! Lending ourselves will lead us to great joy in The Lord! Lending is not letting go of who we are, but becoming who God wants us to be! And He always gives us more than we could ever lend Him!
