Makin' Memories

Makin' Memories

We all have our own hodgepodge family recipe for the perfect memories-all reflected through our timeless photographs. They may not be "picture-perfect," but they're totally worth it!

Why is it that holidays are super exciting for our children, yet we can rarely capture the best moments on camera?

One of my children is a happy 2-year-old who is too elusive to get into a picture, and one is a one-year-old that is so sensitive that by the time he's warmed up at an event, it's almost time to go and the thought of trying to round everyone up for that perfect "instapic" exhausts me. BUT THEY LOOK SO CUTE IN THOSE OUTFITS! And I absolutely LOVE photography, but my life doesn't always agree with it...

Let's face it, holidays are for the kids. They may not remember it at ages 1 & 2, so that's why we long for those perfect album-worthy pics. But it just never happens. I end up with a picture of the back of my 1-year-old's head, and my 2-year-old running past the camera...nothing a Facebook onlooker will see to recognize the things that took place that day...or is it? And who am I really trying to impress?

Actually, that picture is everything that describes what ACTUALLY happened. I captured what life really WAS, not the artistic masterpiece I had planned in my head. I pictured a posed candid of exchanged laughs...instead of all the crying, consoling & craziness. When did my pictures become more about models, and less about memories? When did I start trying so hard to capture a life that wasn't there, rather than be captivated by the life I had? A revolutionary thought...does this mean I'm against the good ol' posed family pic? Not at all. I've just come to the realization that if it doesn't happen, even though we look SO CUTE in the matching outfits I spent half the night putting together, that I didn't miss a thing. I have real memories in my mind, and real (however haphazard) memories in my camera roll. No, they're not my best angle. Yes, Kyler is crying. Yes, Nolan looks like he's the Flash with a trail of himself whizzing behind him. And yes, I'm happy. ;) let life happen!

Surviving the Peace Plummet

Peacefulness is the toughest muscle there is, and exercising it only makes it stronger. However, it proves to be the most difficult to keep toned & honed consistently in our lives. Peacefulness is like that one workout that you know is going to take the most time...

A Moment of Silence.

As was powerfully preached this past Wednesday, "Let there be light" were the first words spoken by God in Genesis 1:3... And He wasn't necessarily speaking about a physical manifestation... But a Spiritual one. Knowing that creation Would mean redemption. It would mean... Heaven needs to touch earth... Light would need to pierce the veil of darkness... The process of creating was ongoing... All the way to the point of creating in us clean hearts (Psalm 51:10) by being born again of water &...

The Heart of the Struggle

Focus Scripture: But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 Hello again! It's been about 4 months since I've stepped back into this space, and I have to say, I am taking very gentle steps. It's been on my heart so much to write again, but I am treading lightly. I may not post every day, unless God leads me there again...but for now, I am just moving forward in God's grace. I have some blog ideas stored up that I've been saving over time as I reflect upon His...
