More than a Miracle

Based on Mark 8-10

Great things happen when we desire Jesus! Yes, it's great to desire a sign, or miracle, or blessing...but even greater things happen when we realize having Jesus is enough (from last post!). We need more than a miracle, we need to have Jesus, the Miracle Worker HIMSELF! Is it better for someone to fish for you, or to teach you how to fish? To have a connection with someone, or just know about them? We need to have Jesus with us at all times-and when we have the Holy Ghost, we sure do! In these chapters of Mark, Jesus shows us it's not about the miracle or position or status...it's about a relationship with Him, and He is God!

Mark 8 starts out with Jesus feeding another large group of people, and the disciples are still skeptical as to how it will be done! Even after previous similar miracles!

"Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve. And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven. And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?"
Mark 8:18‭-‬21.

They have the Miracle Worker right in their midst! Jesus is MORE than miracles. He wants more than to meet our needs, and He CAN do more than meet our needs...He wants us to love Him for who He is, not what He can do for us!

Also throughout these chapters, Jesus continues to talk about His death & Resurrection. This continues to show that it's not just about the beautiful miracles, but the sacrifice which will need to be made for sin.

"And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus."
Mark 9:2‭-‬4

At first, in this miraculous situation, Peter thought they should build 3 tabernacles to Jesus, Moses & Elias...but even in this miracle, we can see that all we need is Jesus:

"And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves." Mark 9:7‭-‬8.

If all we have is Jesus, we have all we need! Even MORE than miracles!

"And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!" Mark 10:24.

This life is not about our riches, what we receive, or even what's been miraculously provided for us. While those are worth praising God for, we cannot put our trust in them. In these very chapters, a man with a demon-possessed boy asked Jesus to help his unbelief (Mark 9:24). The man could see the scary situation with his son, and it was hard for him to see past it. He needed Jesus to increase his faith. Miracles are amazing, but without a faith-filled relationship with Jesus, it's hard to see them actually come to pass! We need to keep our eyes on the REAL Prize & Pearl of Great Price-JESUS CHRIST!
