Prayer: A Life-Preserver

Gina Pietrzak

Based on Genesis 18-19, Matthew 6:1-18

Abraham & Sarah were an example of a couple who learned to build trust with God through prayer & faith. Through this powerful connection, new life happened! A miracle son would finally be born to Sarah! We are not mothers without our children, and Sarah finally realized that God hears our pains & sorrows. He knows the deepest desires of our hearts. He makes things happen! Prayer really is a life-preserver!

"And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him."
Genesis 18:10.

At first, this was unbelievable to Sarah. Yes, she longed for a son. Yes, God knew her heart & I'm sure she prayed & begged God for this miracle child for so long. But she did laugh at the thought of her old age. She didn't understand how God would do it, but He WOULD! He makes a way where there seems to be no way! He makes life out of death!

"Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son." Genesis 18:14.

Nothing is too hard for The Lord! He brings new life, like a new baby, and He SAVES LIVES from impending doom-just like saving Abraham's nephew Lot from the judgment upon Sodom & Gomorrah. Abraham's prayers & intercession for Lot touched the throne of God! Lot & his two daughters were saved from God's wrath upon the cities!

"And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?" Genesis 18:22‭-‬25.

After the angels left from visiting Abraham & telling him about his coming son, Abraham could have let them leave. But, the angels were headed for Sodom & Gomorrah to destroy it according to God's Will...so Abraham remained before The Lord to pray & intercede for the righteous ones (Lot & his family in particular). His prayers were a life-preserver! God spared Lot & his daughters, but his wife looked back & did not make it...

God creates life. God preserves life. God hears our prayers! Remember, don't pray what you think others want to hear...pray from your heart to God alone. Have some serious private time with Him, and watch what He will do!

"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." Matthew 6:6.

Peacefulness is the toughest muscle there is, and exercising it only makes it stronger. However, it proves to be the most difficult to keep toned & honed consistently in our lives. Peacefulness is like that one workout that you know is going to take the most time...

A Moment of Silence.

As was powerfully preached this past Wednesday, "Let there be light" were the first words spoken by God in Genesis 1:3... And He wasn't necessarily speaking about a physical manifestation... But a Spiritual one. Knowing that creation Would mean redemption. It would mean... Heaven needs to touch earth... Light would need to pierce the veil of darkness... The process of creating was ongoing... All the way to the point of creating in us clean hearts (Psalm 51:10) by being born again of water &...

The Heart of the Struggle

Focus Scripture: But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 Hello again! It's been about 4 months since I've stepped back into this space, and I have to say, I am taking very gentle steps. It's been on my heart so much to write again, but I am treading lightly. I may not post every day, unless God leads me there again...but for now, I am just moving forward in God's grace. I have some blog ideas stored up that I've been saving over time as I reflect upon His...
