Rich in Hope
Reading of the Day: Genesis 13-15
Genesis 14:23: That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
Are we rich in hope, or do we have hope in riches? Do we place our faith and security in what we see around us, or is our faith placed in an unseen God Who moves mountains? Abram had incredible faith in God...he was truly someone who was rich in hope! The king of Sodom offered him many different goods for coming to his aid to defeat an enemy, but Abram was well aware that he had victory because of The Lord! So...he rejected the gifts! It takes great temperance and love for God to do such a thing. Since he knew Who his Protector was, he also knew Who his Provider was! Abram was already so rich in un-tangible hope in The Lord that he did not need the tangible riches the king offered. Later on, The Lord reminded Abram of this once again: "After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward." Genesis 15:1. He protects & provides! His love runs deeper than any treasure chest or trust in the tangible! Let's be rich in hope instead of having hope in riches!
