Scars into Songs

Reading of the Day: 1 Samuel 20-22

1 Samuel 22:2: And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

We discussed last post how king Saul was beginning to get jealous of David, and as we read through these chapters, this jealousy only becomes more & more severe. Sadly, the only reason he is jealous & seeks the life of David is because God was with David, and God was no longer with Saul. Saul could tell that God's favor was continually upon David, especially because Saul's own son Jonathan helped David escape from Saul! Now, David was on the run as a wanted man for doing nothing wrong! He felt the sting of betrayal from someone he worked so hard to impress and serve. But at all times, David knew God was his true King. The emotional scars he carried as he went through this long trial were turned into songs, because David wrote most of the book of Psalms when he went through his most difficult situations! Not only was David encouraged as he trusted in The Lord every step of the way, but others were too! The above Scripture says that many others, including his family, that were distressed, in debt or discontented went to him...and a great army formed! An army of people with scars, baggage & suffering that didn't stop them because they saw David's example! They were committed to the great cause we talked about in the previous post! They found their purpose & worth in God, and they did not lose hope in their times of trial. Let's also strive to turn our scars into songs, not only to better ourselves, but to use as a testimony to help others, just like David!
