Sorrow & Brokenness

Based on Psalms 51-53, Romans 2

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." Psalm 51:17

The world despises our weakness & brokenness. Very rarely are we able to function in this world without "putting on our best face" and just doing what we need to do...but God wants us to be real! He actually prefers us to be vulnerable, not prideful! He uses our times of sorrow & brokenness to help us grow & mature!

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: There is none that doeth good." Psalm 53:1

The true fools are the ones who say God does not exist. They claim they have it all together, and avoid that place of brokenness & sorrow, which is the place where we are most open to God!

"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" Romans 2:4

Remember, nothing else will do! The TRUE riches are in His goodness, forbearance & longsuffering...which leads us to repentance! This leads us to the change we seek in ourselves! It leads us to be the best we can for God! This repentance is the sorrow, brokenness yet first step in making us fresh & new in Christ! It's the first key among 3! Repentance & baptism of water & Spirit!

"to them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:" Romans 2:7

...And just look at what's on the other side!! Immortality, eternal life! Let God use your sorrow & brokenness! Don't be afraid to be in that place...it is a place of humility, yet honor...fear of God, yet bravery to stand out from the world...remorse, yet release and freedom from our past...if we avoid it, we could be avoiding our purpose and eternal calling!
