Spared to Save

Many of us have experienced some "close calls." Some times when we are in troubling situations and we are miraculously brought to safety by someone willing to help. In these situations, we can only come up with one solution: God was really looking out for us!

That's exactly what happened with Moses. There were many reasons why he shouldn't be alive. Exodus 1 describes how the new Pharaoh did not know Joseph, who we have previously discussed. This new Pharaoh was not kind to the Hebrews (God's people). He was so scared that the Hebrews would rebel against the Egyptians, so he ordered all the baby boys to be thrown into the river. Moses would have been one of these babies, but God had a plan for Moses to be spared, grow up & save his people!

"And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river's brink. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him." Exodus 2:3‭-‬4.

Moses' mother made an ark for him! Just like Noah rode the ark upon the dangerous flooding waters, Moses had his own little ark as well and God allowed him to sail straight to safety...even though safety happened to be in the arms of Pharaoh's daughter:

"And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children. Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?" Exodus 2:6‭-‬7.

God worked it out perfectly! Miriam had followed Moses' little ark up until this point, and offered Pharaoh's daughter to find someone to nurse the child. This person happened to be his own mother! God has a way of miraculously working things out!

Moses grew up knowing he was a Hebrew, so naturally he didn't like the way his people were treated by the Egyptians. This instinct led him to slay an Egyptian in Exodus 2. But even the Hebrews didn't think that was right:

"And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow? And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known." Exodus 2:13‭-‬14.

So, Moses ran away to Midian, got married, and settled down away from Egypt. But God wasn't done with Moses! He was spared to save! God would use him to go & release the Hebrews from bondage. That's exactly what we're meant to do. We don't go through our life experiences to stay quiet! God wants us to share all the times He's done a work in our lives. He also wants us to be saved & spared on order to see others saved!

Remember, this is our "ark" Scripture of today:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 2:38.

If we follow God's saving pattern of being baptized in Jesus' Name by immersion in water & receiving His Spirit with evidence of speaking in new tongues, we will be on our little ark like Moses, sailing to a life with Jesus now and in eternity. And remember, that includes our mission to see others saved too!

At first, Moses was intimidated by such a great calling to free the Hebrews:

"And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain." Exodus 3:11‭-‬12.

But never fear, Moses! Never fear, Moms! God will be with us as we share the Truth & set souls free, in Jesus' Name!
