Sure Thing
Reading of the Day: Matthew 24-26
Matthew 24:35: Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
In reading these chapters, Jesus says so many good things that it's so hard to choose one Scripture in particular to focus on. He spoke in an encouraging fashion on the most difficult, yet exciting topic of all: the end of the world. One day, Jesus will be coming back for His church-and we need to be ready! This Scripture says that Heaven & earth shall pass away, but His Word will not! Everything we look at around us is only temporary. Nothing lasts forever except His Word! His Word is what created this temporary world, and it's His Word that holds it in place! His Word determines how long it will last. This term "sure thing" was started back in the 1800's, but we know that the most sure thing is God's Word, dating back to the beginning of time! We can be so thankful that He gave us something to have hope in. He gave us a solid Rock in the face of adversity and uncertainty. His Word never breaks down. His Word never has a "bad connection" where we need to find a better wifi signal or internet hotspot! Even in this modern day, His Word is a sure thing! HE is the ONLY sure God! He always shows up & shows out better than anything or anyone else! In 1 Kings 18, Elijah holds onto this same hope. He is so confident in his God that he challenges king Ahab, Jezebel the queen, and hundreds of prophets of the false god Baal to a challenge to see who is the real God. The determining factor would be with a sacrifice, seeing which "god" would answer by fire...and the only God Who sent fire from Heaven was our God! Best of all, everyone there admitted The Lord is God! Let's never forget the confidence we can have in our God! He is God of everything, and everyone, He created! If you ever struggle with trusting in God, thinking He may not come through for you, remember this story! The whole Bible is all about this concept, and Jesus' Words in this Scripture speak it directly so we never forget it. Next time you question getting closer to God, just say "sure thing" and go for it!
