The Driest Cry

Reading of the Day 6/19/25: Psalms 30-32

Psalms 32:4: For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

Sometimes, our tears run like streams down our faces as we cry out to God concerning an immediate need we might have...or something that's been bothering us for a while. Maybe, we've been praying & interceding for so long, and we've felt as though we were in a desert or wilderness place, waiting for circumstances to change...which reminds me of Isaiah 35:6: "Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert." There is so much hope wrapped up in this Scripture! The lame SHALL leap! The dumb SHALL sing! Our waters & tears that break out are seen & heard of by God! But then we compare that to today's Scripture in Psalms. That Scripture says that the moisture dried up & turned into a drought. What happens when we have no more tears to cry? When we have no more words to say? And yet, we still find ourselves in a wilderness, desert place...what then? As we can see, the Psalms don't only hold light-hearted words of encouragement, but real, raw, heart-felt feelings that every human goes through, no matter how Spiritual we think we are. We ALWAYS need Jesus! In the streams down our faces, He is there. In the void, emptiness & silence, He is also there...the evidence of that rests at the end of that same Psalm: Psalms 32:11: "Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart." David poured it all out there, but God also poured back into him and restored his soul! God may still be working behind the scenes on what we're praying about, but restoration of the soul can happen immediately! He hears even the driest cry. He hears even the heart that speaks in silence, without words. And He has a peace that can be felt, even in the waiting!
