The Entire Cup

Bible Reading 11/2: Matthew 26, Mark 14

Matthew 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

These two chapters dealt heavily with one theme: drinking of the entire cup Jesus offers us. In these two chapters, the disciples struggled with "the entire cup" for different reasons...Judas was for profit, but also, "not for prophet" if I could put it that way. He was out for his gain, not God's glory. So Judas drank of the cup of following Jesus, but only until he saw a "better" opportunity. The disciples followed Jesus to the garden, but were too tired to pray. Jesus even wrestled in the flesh with the cup He was about to drink. Thankfully, we know Jesus boldly endured the cross. Also, the disciples did not turn out like Judas, but we also know they had a brief time where they even scattered and left Jesus. Peter also denied him three times when the going got rough, but soon regretted it. We cannot just take a few sips of the cup, no matter how difficult the journey may seem. A few sips won't take us to Heavenly places! We must remember what we are drinking of-we are drinking of the Blood of Jesus...that means the rivers of living water, because the Bible says the life is in the Blood! So yes, on earth, the cup is difficult...but drinking of the entire cup brings eternal life! In the words of Jesus, not my will, but thine be done...drink ye all of it...
