The Full Journey
Based on 2 Chronicles 25-27, John 16
"Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full." John 16:24
Many people are satisfied knowing God's existence...but the ultimate satisfaction is knowing God's heart! And how do we get to know a heart? We connect. We ask questions. We spend time. When it comes to God, this comes in the form of prayer! Prayer is a conversation getting to know God's heart. If we stop at the satisfaction of God's existence, then we are not taking the full journey! We are not Heaven-bound because we are not heart-bound! Our joy & our journey is completely full when we get to know God personally!
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33
He has overcome the WHOLE WORLD! Yet for some reason, many people are satisfied stopping at the idea of God and getting to know the world on a deep level...true joy & true cheer comes with knowing this world is not our home, and we are on our way to somewhere better! Full speed ahead on the full journey! Unfortunately, many kings of Israel & Judah did the same...they may have started off having a heart toward God, but they did not continue the full journey in getting to know the awesome plans God had for them!
"And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart." 2 Chronicles 25:2
"Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them." 2 Chronicles 25:14
Amaziah is one example where it says directly that he did good things, yet his heart wasn't in the right place. After returning from battle, which was a good thing, he brought idols with him, which was a bad thing! How many times do we have an experience where it affects us more than we realize, and we end up taking unnecessary baggage with us? If we don't guard our hearts, this is bound to happen, and we trip up on the journey! We need to check in with God in daily prayer so our hearts are always in the right place! Then our hearts are ready to go the full journey!
