The Good Fight

Reading of the Day: 2 Samuel 16-18

2 Samuel 16:12: It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.

In continuing on with David, we see that the good fight does not always mean fighting back! It's knowing with assurance that God is ultimately the One ordaining all situations...and this doesn't mean we do nothing, but it does mean that we keep in mind that vengeance is The Lord's (Romans 12:19). We keep going, keep the peace, and allow God to give us direction on what to do next! David was an amazing example of this. There was a man who was in support of the previous king Saul, and he cursed David as he traveled down the road with his men. He threw stones, shouted at him & embarrassed him. One of his men was ready to fight back, but instead David was ready to fight the good fight! David spoke the words of this Scripture above: 2 Samuel 16:12: "It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day." Instead of thinking of what that man deserved, king David looked at his own heart. "What could God be testing in me?" He probably thought. And it just shows that David finally learned that lesson we discussed previously-the one Abigail showed in preventing him from making a violent mistake. Holding back is sometimes more powerful, because it makes room for God to do something even bigger! Fighting the good fight of faith can simply mean not fighting back at all! How much patience that must have taken! But we all know, this foreshadows what The Lord would do for us as He climbed Calvary. He allowed Himself to be embarrassed & shamed well beyond anything anyone has ever experienced, or will experience! And...Jesus did not fight back! He fought the good fight through forgiveness: "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots." Luke 23:34. There is a time where God calls us to some sort of battle to defeat our giants-but there will never be a time where we should not allow God to lead us! It is God's will that everyone repent & be saved! So, before fighting back, check with God! Choose to fight the good fight of faith! Kindness tends to pack the most powerful punch! "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." 1 Timothy 6:12.
