The Great Cause

Reading of the Day: 1 Samuel 17-19

1 Samuel 17:29: And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

We now come to some of the most beloved chapters of the Bible. David is really starting to make his presence known, but it's not in a pushy & prideful way...God is leading him every step of the way! God gave him the talent to play the harp, so he ended up playing soothing, peaceful music for the troubled king in his palace. God allowed David to have a willing, courageous heart which trusts in The Lord, and so he was able to pass through the Israelite army, deliver a quick lunch to his brothers & defeat a giant...you know, since he happened to be in the area ;). With God, there are no coincidences! There is a CAUSE! And that's what David reminded his brothers & the whole Israelite army about that day. David's brother Eliab got upset with David for interfering, saying he had no business being at the army camp in the first place...but originally, David's father Jesse sent David there to bring that lunch to his brothers! David, again, was just being obedient, doing the right thing & following God's lead...doing God's business! He then spoke the words in the above Scripture to Eliab, saying, "Is there not a cause?" Meaning, "Aren't we fighting a battle with The One True God on our side!? Why are you scared!?" And the statement was solidified as he stepped out on the battlefield & easily took down the giant! All Israel was reminded of the cause! As David begins to win more victories, king Saul becomes jealous & wants to kill David (even though Saul knows he needs David if he wants to keep winning victories for Israel!). But Jonathan, Saul's son, sticks up for David and speaks in this Scripture: 1 Samuel 19:5: "For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?" Jonathan reminded Saul that he was wanting to kill David WITHOUT A CAUSE! The enemy has no cause greater than the call of God on someone's life! God's cause is THE GREAT CAUSE! If we keep that in mind, we can be confident like David when we face our giants! The cause is greater than the giant! The enemy has no cause or agenda that is more powerful than our God! Whatever we face must bow before The Lord! Stay confident on your walk with God! As we stay on His side, for His great cause, all our giant problems will shrink in His presence!
