The Most Needful Gift

Based on 2 Chronicles 1, Psalm 125

"7: In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee." 2 Chronicles 1:7.

Solomon went to offer a thousand burnt offerings to God. He was so obedient, especially in this area of sacrifice, so God asked what He could give him. Imagine that! He had the ability to ask for ANYTHING! But he didn't ask for what one might think...

"10: Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?" 2 Chronicles 1:10.

Solomon asked for wisdom! Must have taken a little wisdom to ask for such a gift in the first place! But why is this the most needful gift??

Think about it: if he would have said "I'm really low on grain right now. I'll take some of that!" Then, if God were to give him grain, the gift would stop giving right then & there. But wisdom is a gift that keeps on giving! It presents itself to be used in EVERY situation! But, God always gives us more than we ask!

"11: And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honor, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
12: Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like." 2 Chronicles 1:11-12.

God gave him riches & honor beyond compare, since he asked for such a humble (and needful) gift! We can have the same gift today when WE rely on God, and there's no better way to carry that gift with us all the time than through the Holy Ghost:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 2:38

We need the Holy Ghost, along with baptism in Jesus' Name, for our salvation & eternity-but the Holy Ghost IS God within us, and He does so much for us in this life as well! Look at all He did for Solomon without having poured out His Spirit yet...imagine what can happen with SPIRITUAL WISDOM!!

"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual." 1 Corinthians 2:12‭-‬13.

Solomon received the most needful gift he could get in his time, God's wisdom. Since God's Spirit has been poured out after the Resurrection of Jesus, the most needful gift we can get now is the Holy Ghost, which quickens us in an even greater wisdom!

"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:" Ephesians 1:17.

Oh yeah! And the most needful gift of the Spirit comes with a whole bunch of other things! This doesn't mean you won't face struggles, but it does mean you'll be better equipped to handle them:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." Galatians 5:22‭-‬25.
