The Promise

"And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth." Genesis 9:11. How refreshing it must have been for Noah and his family to receive such a wonderful promise from God, which still holds true today! Talk about fresh starts! We talked about the first "clean slate" in the first day of creation, and now here we are. One faithful family, starting off fresh after all evil had been wiped away. And, God said He will never destroy life on earth by flooding again. Now that doesn't mean that God accepted evil after that, but it just meant He wanted man to learn to change from their ways rather than be destroyed.

"And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth." Genesis 9:12-‬13. God is talking about the rainbow here! This has always been meant to be a reflection of God's love for us. Instead of water as a constant reminder of the flood, something beautiful has risen from that. The water droplets which reflect the sunlight cause the colors of the beautiful rainbow to form. This also foreshadows the importance of water throughout the Bible. The ark sailed above the destructive waters of the flood, bringing Noah & his family to a new life, and we wipe all our sins away in the waters of baptism & breathe in the Holy Ghost which causes new life too. So many connections! So many fulfilling promises! All God needs are some faithful families, just willing to say yes.
