The Treasure of Silence
Bible Reading Today: Proverbs 19-21
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue Keepeth his soul from troubles. Proverbs 21:23
In doing some research, I found the quote: “Speech is silver and silence is golden,” which is believed to have originated in Ancient Egypt." But I think the true origination of this concept is in the Bible, especially the verse above! So much of the Proverbs discuss the power our words have. Most of the time, overspeaking overwhelms us & gets us into trouble, while holding our tongue holds us in a place of peace. Silence is usually the better choice, so silence is truly golden-a treasure which should be highly valued! Treasures are hard to come by & obtain...and silence is one of those! How hard is it to hold back our opinion, especially in an argument? Been there! That's exactly why silence is a rare treasure & commodity-it's difficult to keep it most of the time! But The Lord is right (as always!)...keeping silence will keep us out of trouble, and truthfully, silence will allow us to be more present with The Lord! Silence will help us hear His still small voice-the Treasure within the treasure of silence.
