The Word's Nourishment

Based on Ezekiel 3-5

"Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll. And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness."
Ezekiel 3:1‭-‬3.

God caused Ezekiel to consume The Word which He gave him to speak to Israel & Judah. Although it was a word of judgment, it was in his mouth as honey for sweetness. This made me think, every word God speaks into our lives is needful, and we need to listen to it and take it to heart! We can constantly be nourished by The Word of God! Although it was probably hard for Ezekiel to hear all that would come to pass in Jerusalem, he could rest knowing that he was listening to God and God was keeping him safe.

"Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears. And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord God; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear." Ezekiel 3:10‭-‬11.

Ezekiel was to take the Words to heart which were being spoken to him. He was to hold them in the core of his being, and hear them. It's almost as if God's Word was to become a part of him so that he could adequately speak it to his people, whether they would listen, or not...the only way to live out God's Word is to let the Word nourish us. To hold His Word in our hearts and go deep. To let ourselves be transformed so that we can speak it and see this world transformed as well!

"But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house." Ezekiel 3:27.

God will speak through us as witnesses in this world. God has given us His Word to study & nourish us. His Word will quicken us when we are in situations and we need a specific word to speak into someone else's life! God's Word provides all we need, and it's only through the rejection of His Word that we find it hard to manage and be fulfilled in this life:

"Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye multiplied more than the nations that are round about you, and have not walked in my statutes, neither have kept my judgments, neither have done according to the judgments of the nations that are round about you; Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, am against thee, and will execute judgments in the midst of thee in the sight of the nations." Ezekiel 5:7‭-‬8.

Jerusalem did not consume God's Word to the point of being nourished. Just like Jesus' parable of the sower, the people were either rocky, thorny, or weed-filled, not allowing God's Word to take root and grow. They probably only listened to an extent. They did not have a heart-felt connection with God's Word, and therefore did not have that connection with God any longer...we need to let God's Word breathe new life into us day by day so we can be used like Ezekiel to reach this world!
