The Work that Works

Based on 1 Chronicles 7-9, John 6:22-44

"and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasiai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; and their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God." 1 Chronicles 9:12-13

...And the lists go on! The genealogies are quite a lot to take in, but I love the points where they pause & discuss pivotal moments & jobs of certain people & their families. As we discussed last time, it must be an honor for there to be a pause in the listing, highlighting someone who is willing to stand out in the work of The Lord! These listed above were very able men for God's work. Their particular talents & skills were not listed; it just says they were able. Are we able? Are we willing to bring all of our talents & skills forward to see what God will make of them? His work always works! It brings fulfillment!

"All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office." 1 Chronicles 9:22

Again, what an honor to be recognized by God as able...and God recognized them through king David & the prophet Samuel! It's not about the recognition, but rather about being chosen to do such a meaningful work which glorifies God! All of us are able & called to some form of ministry...the question is, will we choose to be chosen? Will we work for the One who works miracles in our lives constantly?

"Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." John 6:27‭-‬29

God's work will work us, that's no doubt...but it will also work the things out of us that are holding us back & causing us to stumble. You are able! And Jesus is the One we labour for. He will use our "able" and turn it into incredible! We don't have to figure out the plan-because believing in Jesus & obeying His Word IS the plan! He will allow all the other details of our purpose to come into focus the moment we focus on Him. God's work works. Will we let Him work in our lives?

"Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?" Isaiah 43:13
