Too Good to be True

Based on Genesis 15-18

"And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."

Genesis 15:5‭-‬6

God always has reminders for us that something good is coming. In Abraham & Sarah's case, it was someONE good that was coming...their long-awaited child. Sometimes, though, it's hard to keep walking strong when the good thing hasn't happened yet. Sometimes we wait so long and think, is this too good to be true? Was this promise really meant for me? What did I do wrong??

"As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee." Genesis 17:4‭-‬5

And again, Abraham receives another reminder. Even though, by this time, Abraham & Sarah bring Hagar into the story & she has a child with Abraham. Although they did have the patience to wait quite some time, Sarah did reach a point of impatience & frustration, which caused Abraham to sway the same way. Maybe God's promise WAS too good to be true??

"Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?" Genesis 17:17

"Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my Lord being old also?" Genesis 18:12

Turns out, as we will see in chapters soon to come, a child DOES come! God's Word is never too good to be true-it's too good to be a lie! We must believe it with everything we have, and stay in it for the long run, even when it seems like we don't see any mountain tops peeking out over the horizon, and no dove with a message of hope.

"And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? Is any thing too hard for the LORD ? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son." Genesis 18:13‭-‬14

God's Word IS our message of hope for the here & now! It encases the pattern of salvation, which is repenting, getting baptized in Jesus' Name & receiving The Holy Ghost as stated in Acts 2:38! When we go through that process, we become the promised children, born to a new life, walking with The Lord, expecting His greatness...which is too good to be a lie!
