Under Construction

Based on 1 Chronicles 22-24, John 8:28-59

"Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD." 1 Chronicles 22:19

David had all the preparations in place. The construction project for the house of The Lord, headed up by his son Solomon, was about to begin! All of the vessels & supplies were gathered, but the most important tool was a passionate heart! Not only was the sanctuary under construction, but so were the hearts of the people. They weren't only building a building, they were building the house of God! This was the place of honor, worship & dwelling of The King! Even more than we want to work for The Lord, He wants to do a work THROUGH us!

"and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even; and to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:" 1 Chronicles 23:30‭-‬31

This wasn't just a place to express the people's fine workmanship. This wasn't a project meant to please man. It was a place created for the purpose of thanking, praising, pleasing, sacrificing & celebrating GOD! That's what church is today as well. Many people don't think church is necessary. That it's just a building...but it's only just a building if our hearts don't commit to the purpose of it all! Our bodies are not under construction as temples of God if we allow ourselves to remain hollow, half-hearted & empty! Just like a building needs updates, renovations & touch-ups, so does our relationship with God!

"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31‭-‬32

The Jews have a long history of tradition since even before David's time. They loved God, but their connection only extended as far as their rituals would allow. Jesus had something deeper to offer. Yes, the work of the temple was great, but Jesus wanted to build off of that in order to build a relationship with Him. He wants to do that with us too! He will use what we already have to give, and build a deeper connection. Sometimes, we have to give some things up in order to truly be set free in Truth...but that's what being under construction is all about! Making the necessary changes so GOD can make us the masterpiece He wants us to be, through a loving relationship with Him!
