Bible Reading Today: 2 Samuel 8-9, 1 Chronicles 18

2 Samuel 9:8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?

This above Scripture was asked by Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan & grandson of the previous king Saul. As we've read, David had respect for God's anointed, which included Saul & all his house. Even though Saul did many terrible things to David & was always in pursuit of him, David loved & respected Saul & his family. David even went so far as to search out this Mephibosheth, who was lame on his feet. Mephibosheth felt so unworthy. David wanted Mephibosheth to come sit & eat all his future meals at his table & be well cared for in the king's palace. What an honor! Surely an honor too great for someone lame on his feet, thought Mephibosheth...he felt like a dead dog in the presence of king David...after all, he wasn't only lame on his feet, he was related to one of the most terrible kings to rule over Israel...but David said, you are welcome here at my table! In fact, as mentioned, David sought HIM out! He went looking for any last one related to king Saul, and when he was told Mephibosheth was lame on his feet, that did not make a difference! No matter what, David wanted to change his life for the better & allow him to live in a way he never thought possible! That's what Jesus does for us when we come to church! We don't have to come with our tail between our legs, ashamed of what we have done...if you want to come to Jesus & you're ready for the best change of your life, He is ready to receive you!
